L-Norvaline, also known as 2-Aminovaleric acid, is a non-proteinogenic amino acid with the chemical formula C5H11NO2. L-Norvaline is structurally similar to the amino acid valine but has an additional carbon atom in its side chain. It is produced by bacteria during the synthesis of proteins and is also found in some foods such as dairy, grains, and meats. L-Norvaline is known to inhibit the activity of the enzyme arginase, which can increase the production of nitric oxide in the body. This makes it a popular ingredient in pre-workout supplements, as increased nitric oxide levels can improve blood flow, enhance muscle pumps, and improve athletic performance.
