Adenosine 5’-diphosphate

CAS NO: 58-64-0

ADP is a nucleotide composed of adenosine and two phosphate groups linked together. It is an important molecule in cellular metabolism and energy transfer processes. ADP is converted to adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through the addition of a phosphate group in an energy-requiring process known as phosphorylation. ATP is the primary energy currency of cells and is involved in various biological processes, including muscle contraction, enzyme reactions, and active transport. ADP also plays a role in cell signaling and acts as a precursor for the synthesis of other nucleotides.
